I think we can all agree that the image of being caught in a sinking boat is not exactly a positive symbol. Imagine yourself out on the ocean, on the deck of the titanic. You can see the boat sinking deeper into the sea as the waves crash in and around the vessel. A sinking boat dream can definitely be that intense!
It doesn’t take much imagination to understand what’s going to happen next and fully picture the looming adversity. Your mind starts to fill with dark thoughts, and you feel unable to breathe as the gloomy omen suffocates you.
Humanity has always had mixed feelings when it comes to the sea. On the one hand, it can represent new vistas, livelihood, and even adventure.
On the other hand, it can be unforgiving, mysterious, and dangerous. You only need to look at the many sunken ruins under the oceans. Unlucky sailors caught on a ship battered by the storm sunk to their watery graves.
When you experience a sinking boat dream, a lot of these come to mind. It’s important to understand the context to find accurate dream meanings because you’re dealing with strong emotions and the concept of possibility.
While the interpretations of a dream about cruise ship images involve a sinking ship as well, to dream specifically about a boat sinked or in the process of sinking could symbolize something different entirely.
These are the two strong forces tugging away and trying to direct your sinking boat dream. You have to fill in as many details as you can to get a more accurate read of what your subconscious is telling you.
The good news is the sensation of being stuck in a boat that’s sinking is a strong one. It would be safe to say that it would be very hard to forget. The mixed emotions you feel as you go through your sinking boat dream may be so strong that it can wake you up in a cold sweat and make you shake.
Whatever your physical and emotional state may be, you are awake, and this is a golden opportunity to be mindful of the scene that just played out in your mind. The stronger the emotions, the higher the chance you will remember key details that will help you interpret your dream more accurately.
What does it mean to dream of a sinking boat or ship?
Water is the universal symbol of human emotions.
It represents the immeasurable power and the unfathomable mystery of human emotions. This symbol is rooted in our collective minds and souls.
But dreaming of a sinking boat doesn’t just turn on the water. Of course, that is the one factor we fear. After all, nobody wants to drown. But there is another key figure in that dream as well. The boat symbolizes our ability to navigate, control, shape, and define our emotions.
It also indicates our ability to exert some control in our world. It’s important to keep this in mind because emotions can lead to mysteries and dangers. But we are also required to make something out of nothing.
You have to have the passion for achieving any success in life. Viewed from this lens, we shouldn’t be afraid of our emotions. What’s important is how we direct our emotions, and this is what the boat symbolizes.
It is a collection of the skills, techniques, and strategies we’ve learned along the way that enables us to steer the vessel of our minds and lives through the vast possibility and danger that the ocean represents.
Sadly, dreaming of a sinking boat implies that your subconscious is telling you that you’ve lost your battle with your emotions. Maybe you can’t control them to the degree you imagined. Or they have set in motion a series of mindsets and coping strategies that are not doing you any good or even holding you back and dragging you down.
But here you are, thinking that you have control over your life. In reality, however, you are living in some psychological and emotional prison. How would you know? When you have bouts of anger or are irritated by the stuff you see on social media, or you burst into tears when you watch youtube videos.
Sinking boat dream represents emotional outbursts
Dream meanings of a boat that’s sinking are one thing; it’s another thing entirely if the dream shows that the ship sank already.
There is a lack of control there. Many people get insecure when they hear they lack control because we all want to believe that we are the masters of our ships. The problem is we don’t do ourselves any favors if we believe in the illusion of self-mastery without basing it on emotional intelligence and competence.
We are setting ourselves up for worse emotional upheaval down the road. After all, how can you handle a real disaster if you can’t handle the small things? How can you handle losing a loved one? Or being unable to find a job? Or facing severe financial loss?
This can all come to a head when you see that image of a sinking boat because it represents your subconscious’ warning that you’re losing control over your emotions. It is also a red sign of the helplessness you feel inside.
In your waking life, it may not seem like that. It may seem that you are in control and things are going well, but this signal would not appear on your mind’s radar for no good reason. You might be in denial, or you are used to overlooking some details in your life that you’re on the verge of being overwhelmed by forces beyond your control, and you’re completely blind to it.
Please understand that your vulnerabilities will remain regardless of whether you choose to see them or be aware of them. It’s much better to get a complete big picture view of your life and make decisions based on those facts rather than hanging on to an illusion of control.
The general dream interpretation of a sinking boat and what a sinking cruise ship symbolizes
If you dream about sinking boats or cruise ships, you have to pay close attention to what happened before. Focus the scenes within these vessels and other signs such as weather conditions and the water’s appearance.
You might be thinking that these are small details. But these smaller dream symbols and nuances are what affect the shape and direction of your dream. Ignore these at your peril. If you want to have a good and accurate idea of what a sinking ship symbolizes in your dream, start with the small stuff.
The interesting thing about figuring out what a boat implies or what a sinking ship symbolizes is that we tend to fixate on our dream’s central figure, the sinking boat or ship. That’s all well and good, but you also have to pay close attention to what’s going on and its place and time.
If you pan back your mental camera, you can get a wider vista, and all these details will become clearer. This way, your boat dream would be easier for you to understand and associate with certain circumstances in your life.
What does it mean to dream of a sinking ship?
If the main focus of your dream is a sinking generic ship, it involves a sense of hopelessness and helplessness in your waking life. A key symptom of this is the inability to manage your emotions.
Interestingly, you have to see waves in this dream for the emotional component to be a bigger factor in its interpretation. You also have to see the ship take on a lot of water. This way, the imagery of the dream is more water than the ship.
If the focus of your dream camera is on the ship itself, it indicates that you’re depressed or feeling hopeless about your sense of helplessness. It’s as if your emotions keep on getting the better of you, and you can’t do much of anything about it.
Unsurprisingly, a sinking ship dream often indicates a sense of personal failure but not in the way you think. Generally, this type of dream indicates fear of failure more than actual failure. Do you see the difference?
This is a big distinction because the fear of something is often worse than the reality of whatever it is we’re afraid of. The good news is you can use this as a push from your subconscious to get out of your comfort zone.
Many things in your life and past terrify you or make you uncomfortable because you don’t confront them enough. Whether it’s a past trauma or a self-limiting idea, or issues about our competence and capability, the giants in our lives are made of paper.
They’re only illusions. If we take a long hard look at them and push back against them, they would fall away because they are based on misunderstanding, bad perception, and exaggeration. For whatever reason, we hang onto them and grow them over the years because they give us a false sense of security.
How? Why would anybody do this? It’s simple; if you feel inside that you can’t do certain things, you will grasp whatever evidence or mindset to keep you where you are. You don’t care where it comes from. You’re going to find and use it because you want to stay where you are.
You are telling yourself lies, justifications, and excuses why you have to stay where you are. A lot of that goes away when you confront your fears.
What does it mean to dream of surviving a sinking ship?
If the focus of your dream involves you surviving a sinking ship, your subconscious is telling you that you have a lot more control over your situation than you give yourself credit for. If anything, it highlights your fighting spirit.
Please understand that you’re not going to have this dream if you feel you have many options. It seems that despite all the problems, obstacles, and challenges that you have, you will be able to navigate the difficult choices and come out ahead.
The missing link here is determination. You have to look at the details of you surviving the sinking ship. Did other people pull you up from the water, or did you swim in your life vest until you got to safety?
These are different things because if you find yourself drifting for long periods in your dream, this can indicate a sense of helplessness. Sure, you survived, but you were waiting for other people to save you. Not exactly a winning strategy because you can’t control other people.
You, however, can control the amount of focus and effort you have to deal with a challenging or threatening situation. This is where swimming to safety comes in. If you see yourself surviving a sinking ship because you swam to shore, this indicates victory and personal maturity.
On the other hand, seeing yourself drifting and being rescued by somebody—either a close friend or a stranger—can indicate a growing sense of emotional dependency. Personally speaking, I would view this as a red flag.
What does it mean to dream of a sinking rescue boat?
Generally, we feel hopeful when we think of rescue boats. These boats, after all, are vessels designed to get you out of tough situations. When it arrives to rescue you but starts taking in water, your emotional state tells you that things are even more hopeless than they appear.
This is your pessimism talking to you. The dream meaning involving a sinking rescue boat doesn’t have to be a prophecy or a reflection of what’s going on in your life.
But whatever it is you’re challenged with – such as work issues, money problems, or relationship issues – part of you is saying that you’re caught in such a hopeless situation that even solutions that you readily think of are not enough.
You may be thinking that a relative will bail you out with a quick loan, or your partner will quickly come to his senses. Whatever it is that you believe will get you out of the situation isn’t panning out.
Unsurprisingly, many people who experience this dream feel gloomy about their situation and the quality of their relationships. If you’re not careful, you will start blaming the people closest to you – or even the most influential person in your waking life – who are in the best position to help you.
This is similar to the breathing underwater dream interpretation in that you can either feel at peace, or you feel trapped, helpless, and in despair.
This should not come as a surprise because drowning people thrash, fight, and punch the lifeguards who try to save their lives. This is why many lifeguards, especially in the United States, are trained to let the person struggling in the water become unconscious before rescuing them.
It sounds harsh, but that’s the only solution. Other than that, the lifeguard may be at risk of drowning themselves. The same applies to your situation.
When you see a rescue boat sinking, you think that your relationships, networks, and the people who bail you out are not up to the job, so you feel hopeless. You then start blaming them.
Dreaming of a rescue boat in trouble can also indicate that you no longer trust your resourcefulness, natural imagination, and ability to think out of the box. In your mind, your problem is so big that you are beyond hope. You find it almost impossible to remain positive, and you start to lose control of your emotions.
The good news is that this is your imagination talking to you. It doesn’t have to be an accurate report of your reality. Consider this a warning sign so you can be more realistic about your actual situation. Is it hopeless? If it is, what options do you have?
The good news is there is always an answer. It may not be something you’re comfortable or easy with, but at least there’s an option.
What does it mean to dream of a sinking fishing boat?
A fishing boat is used to catch fish to feed people or to produce livestock feed. It is often associated with provisions. When you see it sinking, you’re beginning to doubt your ability to provide for those who depend on you.
This is often connected with your job or business, or investments. It can mean that you are so worried that things are going south as far as your finances and career go that you won’t be able to provide anymore.
Depending on the size of the fishing boat and how mechanized it is, it can also indicate that you’re losing faith in your skills, talents, and ability to get out of a sticky situation.
Depending on how the boat capsizes, it can also have something to do with your ability to commit. The dream could symbolize something even more threatening if you see a driverless boat.
Please understand that any relationship worth keeping is based on commitment. Maybe you fear failure, so you’re more than happy to keep the relationship at a sexual or a physical level. Or you don’t care that much or have fallen out of love.
Whatever the case may be, the emotional provision isn’t there. A lot of this has to do with you, not with your partner, so you might want to take a step back when you wake up and think about your level of commitment to your relationship.
Commitment is the ingredient that turns infatuation into romance and romance into a relationship. Are you ready for that? Are you willing to sacrifice for that?
To love somebody means to love them when they are sick or suffering their worst days when the best they can do is slap you around or lash out at you. That’s commitment. When you see that dream imagery, you have to be clear about how much you value the relationship.
At the end of the day, when you get into a real relationship, it’s no longer what you want from each other. A third party called “relationship” is born. It has its own demands. If both of you take that third party seriously, you will be fine no matter what you go through.
But if the focus is on what you can get from that other person or how your ego is satisfied because of what that person brings to the table, you are either leaning on each other or hoping that you will complete each other.
The chances of the relationship panning out isn’t very good in the long run.
What does it mean to dream of being on a cruise ship?
To dream of being on a cruise ship means you are happy and satisfied with your life. You can see the wide-open blue skies representing opportunity, adventure, and possibility. When people go on a cruise ship, they want to relax.
They’re not there to fish or rescue people or pull up debris from the ocean. There is no “utility” to a cruise ship, practically speaking. It’s for entertainment and leisure. When you see a cruise ship as the central icon of your dream, it means that your sense of possibility, adventure, and potential is awakening again.
This is a very good sign because many of us tend to focus on duty, responsibilities, and obligations as we get older. If we’re not careful, this becomes so ingrained in our routine that we rarely get out of our comfort zone.
We become masters at what we already know, but that can only go so far. Before you know it, you’ve been left behind not just by technology but by other people. You can’t relate. That’s why when you find yourself on a cruise ship, it means there’s a part of you that’s dreaming again.
It’s not necessarily about money, status, or power. It’s about the thrill of discovering something and bringing something from the realm of your thoughts into a state that you can see, touch, taste, hear, and smell.

What does it mean to dream of an empty boat that is sinking?
Dreaming of a sinking empty boat is one of the most disheartening nighttime visions you could have. That empty boat represents your disappointment with yourself. Obviously, it’s not much of a boat because it’s sinking.
You feel that whatever sense of control, big dreams, and ambitions you may have failed you. It’s not a surprise that many people who see this dream imagery report having family members going through tough times or being ill.
The reality is that when you see this type of dream imagery, a part of you has given up. You’re spent. There’s no fuel left or passion for pushing you against all odds to reach for the stars. You’re beyond that. Depending on the details of the sinking empty boat, it can indicate that you are resigned.
You are saying to yourself, “I already made all these bad decisions, and I’m alone. Everybody has left me, or they went on their way. I am alone, and this is all I have to show for my life.” This is not necessarily a prediction or an accurate portrayal of what’s going on in real life.
But at the center of it is a profound sense of loneliness. This loneliness doesn’t mean that you don’t have people around you. Did you know that you can be lonely in a crowd because you feel people can’t reach or understand you?
Unsurprisingly, this motif is surrounded by emotional instability and outbreaks of emotional rashness. But there is a certain tranquility to it because, after the initial thrashing about, it just sinks, and an eerie calm fills your being.

The dream interpretation of a capsized boat and its effect on your waking life
When you see a capsized boat in the open sea, it’s an indication of a possible major financial problem. The capsized boat means that it’s already sunk below the water and is resting on the seafloor.
It is a monument to all your best-laid plans, hopes, dreams, and ambitions laid to waste. It is also the final destination of indecision, hastiness, brashness, trusting the wrong people, and other financial mistakes you’ve made along the way.
Interestingly enough, there is a sense of eerie calm as you see the capsized boat underwater. You’re no longer thrashing about. Instead, a quiet sadness fills you. And when you pay close attention to what’s going on in your mind, you will notice a certain stillness.
Sometimes when we lose things that give us a sense of purpose or confidence and pride like our possessions, the loss allows us to try something else. It’s as if it’s a great emotional and psychological reset button.
When your glorified security blanket like a big house, a high-paying job, a corner office, or whatever form it takes disappears, your life is allowing you to start from scratch and build from something real.
Maybe you won’t make the same mistakes and trade-offs that you’ve made before. It doesn’t mean that the game is over if you experience an eerie calm when you have this mental image of a capsized boat in the bottom of the ocean or sea.
Depending on the dream’s other details, it could very well mean that your journey is about to begin. You placed your hope, identity, pride, and confidence on the wrong things. Now you have winning chances to rework everything and start from better foundations.
What does it mean to dream of being in a boat equipped against sinking?
If you notice that the boat you’re on has all sorts of sinking prevention devices and everybody’s wearing a life vest, this dream foretells preparation, steadiness, and a well-laid plan.
This is a fortunate sign that you possess the ingredients for success in the near future. This can be an upcoming financial improvement, a breakthrough in terms of your relationships, or extreme good fortune in general.
This should not be a surprise because, as the old saying goes, “the harder I work, the luckier I get.” There’s a reason certain people tend to do the right things at the right time with the right people to produce the right results.
It’s not a one-time thing because they do it again and again. I understand that if that plays out once, you can dismiss it as luck. But if they can pull that off again and again, it’s no longer luck; it’s hard work. It means they’re paying attention to present objectives,
So when you see yourself in a boat with tools that can prevent sinking – especially if you know, in these dreams, that you are equipped with great swimming skills – this is a positive sign. This can mean that you’re on the right path, and you should allow your self-esteem to catch up, so you can successfully accomplish your dreams.
People rob themselves of success because they keep beating themselves up and defining themselves based on their failures and each negative situation they find themselves in. They can’t move on from the money they lost, the intimate and close friends who betrayed them, and the deep sense of loneliness they experienced.
Dreaming of an equipped boat means you’ve done the work, the research, and you’ve gone as far as you could. Now it boils down to trusting yourself enough to put one foot in front of the other to get where you need to go.
Keep in mind that this doesn’t only impact your finances or material well-being. It also impacts your relationships.
From where do you draw your confidence? From other people? Do you starve for the validation of others that you spend hours on your Facebook feed trying to get likes, or you’re in TikTok trying to get noticed?
When you base your confidence on self-validation, then you will be properly equipped. No matter how stormy the seas are, you will be in control because you are in charge of how much focus, effort, and attention you bring to the table. Nobody can take that away from you.
What does it mean to dream of a big boat that sunk?
This is somewhat related to the equipped boat. Generally, it’s going to be hard to sink your hopes and dreams if you are prepared. At the very least, you can turn a corner and make the necessary adjustments at the last minute and get to where you want to go.
But life is what happens when you’re making plans. And sometimes, you put so much equipment in your boat, but it still sinks. This dream tells you that you have to be honest with yourself regarding your decision and emotional habits.
It is also a reminder that the only real person who can rob you of success is you. Not your enemies, not your haters. They can talk whatever they want and withhold resources they control. But you can succeed if you want it bad enough.
What are these internal enemies you must be aware of? It could be your self-esteem that can impact your confidence. It can be the ghosts of your past failures. Learn to let them go. If you’re suffering from low self-esteem, understand that the more competent you are in certain areas of your life, the more confident you will be.
The more skillful you are, the more you will realize that you can make things happen. If you decide on something, there will be positive effects. And if this plays out, again and again, you will start living life with a high degree of confidence and certainty that your decisions will pan out.
This enables you to build a bigger boat with a smaller chance of being sunk because it’s properly equipped.
What does it mean to see a boat tipping and sinking?
This is a fairly straightforward dream to interpret because it means there is an imbalance in your personal, professional, mental, and physical lives. So you have to step back and find that imbalance.
Are you burning yourself out at work with nothing to show for it? This could be a negative sign that may symbolize unexpected major financial problems coming your way. It could also be telling you that your fatigue is negatively affecting your health, and you – or someone close to you – might soon fall ill or face a serious clinical health condition.
Are your relationships balanced? Is your romantic relationship based on open communications and mutual respect? Or are you facing deeply negative situations with your partner? This is a gloomy sign that could symbolize that such relationship is not as smooth sailing as you think. Alternatively, your subconscious can see a relationship you have with someone significant ending soon.
Pay attention to what this dream suggests.
The good news about the dream image of a tipping and sinking boat is that, for the most part, you already know the answer. It’s your subconscious telling you that it understands that you know, so get to it.

What does it mean to dream of a small boat?
If you see yourself in a small boat without an engine or with a small engine, it can indicate that you have a calm nature. Many people might look at you as someone without ambition or who doesn’t think big.
But the truth is you know yourself. Just because you don’t plan to be the next Magellan doesn’t mean that your hopes, dreams, and ambitions are less worthy than others with loftier ideas. To dream of a small boat is an invitation to be true to yourself because big things start as small things.
It’s all about scale. If anything, by being true to yourself and understanding your emotional limits, you have a clearer idea of what you’re building and your timing. Generally, this is all you need to start scaling up and building onto something else.
It doesn’t mean that you will get big or be the brightest star among your friends. But it does indicate that you’re probably going to be the most level-headed, and that is a big thing.
What does it mean to dream about sailing in a large boat or a big ship with a family member?
The moment you see a family member sailing with you in your dreams, particularly one you don’t talk to all that much, pay close attention to internal conflicts.
This doesn’t mean that you hate that person. It only means that you don’t see eye-to-eye with the person, and you’re not exactly sailing through calm waters.
Perhaps part of yourself has given up trying to understand this person because he is very different from you. Just like sailing on a large boat or a big ship can give us opportunities to know each other better at a leisurely pace, you might want to set aside whatever conflict or misunderstanding you may have with this person and try to listen and learn from them.
You might be surprised at what you discover.
What do dreams about sailing with your family mean?
Just like sailing in a large boat with a family member, sailing with your family can mean either connection or a need for better communication. Maybe you look at your family only as a source of support or a group of people different from you.
All these can go through changes because the moment you start seeing your family communication channels and styles from a different perspective, all bets are off. Many of the things you thought were unsolvable, intractable, or hard to make sense of may turn out to be fairly easy to resolve.
Dream Example #1
I am going to a beach for a summer vacation. I couldn’t be more excited to get my tan and enjoy the sun.
I prepared all the dresses I will wear on the beach and the bikinis to flaunt my toned body. I wanted my outfits to be Instagram-worthy.
It is a three-day vacation, and I am sharing this experience with some good friends at work. And what better way to hit the beach than with your real-life besties.
I overpacked actually for a three-day vacation. But I don’t mind. All I care about is I will bring with me all the needed outfits and essentials for this travel.
So the day of the vacation arrived. When we all met, we were all very excited. They were laughing at me because I brought too much luggage. They told me that all my wardrobes are with me.
We rented a boat to the island that we are about to go to. It will take us an hour to reach the island. It was already three in the afternoon. We were just waiting for porters to load on all the luggage that we have on the boat.
Suddenly, I observed a shift in the weather. It has become windy and gloomy. I was anxious about the situation because it can be dangerous for us to proceed on the trip.
I try to calm myself and relax for a while. I asked if we can postpone leaving the port and wait for the wind to calm down.
But the driver said that we should heat out as soon as possible because it will be dangerous for us if we postpone the departure. Delaying means waves are coming because of high tide. And we have nothing to worry about the waves.
I trusted the driver, but my gut tells me that something is about to go wrong. When the boat departed the port, I was feeling nervous.
While we were traveling, I can feel stronger winds. The waves that were hitting our boat become bigger.
We were tossed back and forth by big waves. And because of that, some of the waters came inside the boat. This is the first time that we experience something horrible in our lives.
We were becoming anxious, and we started to shout for help.
Water started to fill in the boat causing it to sink slowly, and we are in it.
We started looking for life jackets, and every one of us wears them. We all know that this life-saving gear will keep us afloat when the boat sink. We tried contacting our loved ones. Maybe then they can send help too.
Unfortunately, all of us don’t have access to the signal. We were all frightened and started praying that miracle will happen. The vacation went wrong. We pictured it to be full of fun, but disaster greeted us along the way. I was screaming at the top of my lungs, I had that final loud scream for help, and then I woke up.
I felt relief that the experience that I have with the sinking boat was a dream.
Dream Example #2
It was a night as dark as a deep tunnel. The darkness surrounded the ocean, and the stars covered the whole sky. The clouds acted like an overprotective mother watching over a misbehaving child. I stood there, seeing the waves striking the shore.
Each striking wave is sharper and bolder than the last. The large tides were hitting the land with full force. There was a snowy white sea foam formed, which outlined each dark, black wave. Black wave acting like a light lace outlining a dark piece of cloth. They were lapping at the shore, while the waves were punching the rocks on the shore with their might.
The sharp rock sliced the water in half. It came gushing down the rock like a waterfall in two different parts.
The strong winds were controlling the waves while providing energy to the tides. In return, they were using up all the force given by the winds in punching and hitting the shore. There was complete silence — in fact, a pin drop silence. The only audible sound was the thudding of the sharp and forceful waves.
They struck the land with full force. The salty smell of the ocean was so strong that it could be felt dancing on your tongue, even from a distance.
The moon was hovering above the ocean, seeing the strong waves, when a boat appeared in the waves. It could be struggling its way through the tides and waves. The waves were carrying the boat with them while it had to go the other way. It was rolling from side to side and riding up and down in the active sea.
Now the only audible sound apart from the thudding of the waves was the sighs of the poor passengers. Screams rose as the boat lost its balance and started tilting. The angry waves smacked against the side of the boat, and it could soon be with a huge crack. Now the water started filling in the holes of the boat while the boat started sinking. The passengers were trying to save themselves from drowning.
Everything looked like it was happening in slow motion. It all looked so blurred from a distance, yet the fate of the boat was so vivid.
It felt like time had stopped, yet it was moving away too fast because my heart had stopped the time. It was the time that filled the boat with salty, dark water, and the ocean was swallowing it up right before my eyes. I couldn’t do anything except feel the time that was passing by as sharp as the air.
The air was brushing my body as I stood beside the ocean. Now the boat was swallowed down by the ocean and travelled its way down through dark water. It had reached the bottom of the deep ocean, which was its place of rest that was its fate. It is the destiny not only of the boat but of the travellers as well. Destiny wins over everything.
Dream Example #3
I opened my eyes and found myself on an island. I tried to look for other people who would be on the island, but it seemed like I was the only one who was there. Strangely, the island is as small as a grocery store’s parking lot.
I tried to explore the place and look for anything that could help me in this situation. There were coconuts everywhere, but I knew that that was not what I needed. I need to get out of the island. I tried to shout and scream for help, but no response was heard on the island. I was alone. I was trapped.
I went back to the spot where I woke and suddenly saw a boat by the shore.
A sense of relief came through me, and even though I had no idea where to go, I decided to get on the boat. Before getting in the boat, I collected coconuts that I found around the island. I placed them inside the boat, hoping that it would be enough once I have arrived at a different island where I could get help.
I successfully got myself in the boat, and it started moving further into the sea. The first few moments of the journey were peaceful. No other boats were around me, but I didn’t mind.
Being alone on a boat with no idea as to where you are headed is frightening. What if a storm comes out? What if sharks surround me? In an attempt to distract me from fear, I decided to drink from the coconut I had previously collected. I think it was after a few hours when I found myself caught up in the storm.
My fear was turned into a reality, well, at least in this nightmare of mine. The boat started to fill with water. I knew that at any moment now, I would start to drown with the sinking boat.
I was so desperate that I tried to scoop the water out of it even though it was raining hard and new water was filling in the boat. I can feel the boat sinking, and I decided to throw the remaining coconuts from the boat in hopes of lightening the weight. I do not want to die, even if it was just a dream.
The thing that I once thought was a blessing seemed like a curse. Screw this boat.
If only I had stayed on the island, I wouldn’t be in this situation. Amidst the situation I was in, I tried to imagine what my life would be if I had stayed on the island. If only I had waited for a few days, I wouldn’t catch myself in the storm.
The boat continued to sink, and it seemed that the storm was just getting stronger. I knew that if I stayed on the boat, I would drown with it. Like a brave woman, I jumped out of the boat and now struggled with trying not to drown.
Dream Example #4
I spent the whole day planting seeds. When nightfall came, I witnessed something peculiar. It would have been better if documented. A group of tiny shining lights was flying across my plants giving them an unknown substance. I could not distinguish it. I dare step foot outside with hopes to cure the curiosity running in my head.
To my great disbelief, these are tiny creatures with human forms floating above the plants.
They were showering the seeds with beautiful colors as they blossom to the extent of full maturity. I scratched my eyes and slapped my face. Am I dreaming? A tiny voice answered no. I ran in terror and bumped my head against the wooden bell by the yard that I carved from the trunk of a Nara tree.
As soon as I regained consciousness, I found myself in bed tucked in. I stood up when I saw that the sun was about to set again. Maybe it was indeed a dream. I barely could recall any of it. I went on my usual routine involving brewing coffee, cooking bacon and eggs, reading the newspapers, and feeding the pets. I heard triumphant cheers outside.
It felt like a commotion but not a bad one, a feast almost. I rushed towards it. I saw the seeds I planted the other day instantly become a fruit-giving tree ready for harvest. Could it be that I fell into a deep coma and woke up years later? I ran closer and tried to recall what sort of miracle happened but could fail to do so. It must be a gift from God.
“Thank you, Lord!” I exclaimed. I was about to leave when someone spoke. As I looked back, I saw no person nearby. What could it be? I asked myself. I observed some more.
I had attempted to contact someone from the city to help me harvest all the fruits when I recalled that I live in the middle of the forest with nothing but abundance in biodiversity. What am I supposed to do with all of this? I stayed under the apple tree munching on the sweet apples.
If only I could distribute these to the less fortunate that still lives in the city. I thought. “No problem!” A tiny voice appeared again together with a carriage with a horse. I could not believe my eyes nor my ears for this. Are the plants talking to me? “You’ve been great the whole time.
You’ve provided so much care for us. It’s time for you to provide care for others” in an instant, I was transported to the city.
I laid out my goods and labeled them for free. At first, no one dared to grab some. I patiently waited for the first person to take the initiative. I drew flyers that have free food for everyone written on it.
As soon as the wind scattered them among the city ground, more people swarmed me. Chaos broke out. I did not expect that such food acts would result in a nasty competition.
I stared blankly in the sky and once again looked back to the city I was. The resources and properties I currently own are enough to sustain me for a lifetime. However, the city, it’s full of chaotic and unequal governance that leaves me uncontested.
With unknown intention, I hopped in my boat and sailed the Pacific coast.
Dream interpretation and symbology have fascinated me ever since I read Freud’s classic, “The Interpretation of Dreams.” Ever since, I have explored Christian, Jewish, Hindu, and Buddhist as well as Jungian psychological ideas about the meaning of dreams. Thanks for joining me in my exploration of the amazing intersection between our conscious waking world and the rich expanse of our subconscious-the home of our intuition, instincts, and hidden potential.
