If you’ve ever had a dream when it seemed like the whole length of your nighttime vision focused on the keys in your hand or in your possession, there is no doubt you had a dream of keys.
You might be thinking to yourself that keys are a weird thing to dream about.
After all, there’s just so many things that your mind could focus on.
Why keys?
Well, it turns out that your dream of keys is not only rich, varied, deep, and possibly complicated.
But it can say a lot of important truths about your life.
I’m not just talking about things that are happening right now that your waking mind may have overlooked or may have misjudged.
Instead, I’m also talking about a lot of the things that you are experiencing but you may not be giving proper importance to them.
What Is the General Meaning of Keys in a Dream?
Keys are devices that you use to open locks.
That is their main job.
When you dream of these devices, your subconscious is trying to draw your attention to several important issues in your life.
First, you’ve been looking for somebody who understands you.
While the idea of a “soul mate” is romantic in nature almost by definition, you also need a soul mate when it comes to other areas of your life.
The soul mate doesn’t have to be your lover.
You might not even need to be in a romantic relationship with this person.
Regardless, this person brings out the very best in you.
This could be your business partner, your best friend, your “strategic workmate,” or even a boss or mentor.
Whatever the case may be, this person brings your soul to life, and that’s why this individual plays such an important role in how you will turn out.
Well, your subconscious is craving the guidance, assistance, and encouragement of such an individual.
Things are beginning to materialize that may lead to you meeting such a person.
This brings me to the second general interpretation of keys in your dream: You are entering a new phase.
There are phases in life.
As you probably already know, you start out as babies.
We grow up a little bit, then we mentally mature, then we grow up some more.
And before we know it, we are old, sick, and then it’s time to pass away.
You are in a new phase of your life, and there’s a lot of things to understand.
What makes this all challenging is the preconceived ideas we may have of a phase that is coming up.
No sooner have we become comfortable in one stage of our lives that we find to our shock that it is time to move on to the next one.
Your subconscious is beginning to grow more comfortable with the idea of you going through phases.
This is a major breakthrough.
Because when you go through these with the right attitude, fresh ideas come to you; your problem-solving skills improve; eventually, you achieve spiritual growth.
This brings me to the third general interpretation of dreams involving keys.
Spiritual growth doesn’t just involve the supernatural or higher reality.
Spiritual growth also involves growing from one mindset to the next.
You will always have a mindset.
It is your mental operating system while your physical body constitutes your hardware.
What you do with your body and by extension what you accomplish with your life is influenced almost completely by the mental operating system you wish to install.
I can’t emphasize that enough.
A lot of people think that they have no free will.
A lot of people are convinced that their lives are simple products of what happened before.
Maybe they came from abusive families.
Maybe they came from a really challenging part of the world.
Whatever the case may be, they think that their lives are simply just the latest extension if you will of something that came before — something ancient, timeless, and unchangeable.
Talk about self-inflicted paralysis!
The truth is you can always come up with one excuse after another if you don’t want to do something.
The human mind is just unbelievable when it comes to justifications and excuses to back up something it doesn’t want to do.
But you have to evolve!
Your decisions affect your life.
In fact, your mindset is the cause, and your life right now with all its potential, promises, achievements, and yes frustrations is the effect.
Know how these two things are interconnected.
You are always in control.
I know that’s bad news for a lot of people because it puts the onus on them to get their act together — not their parents, not even people who died a hundred years ago.
On them!
This is what you need to grapple with because if you want to install the right mental operating system, you have to start with the realization that you chose your life.
Again, this is hard news for a lot of people.
Too many of us just don’t want to hear this kind of thing.
But if you can understand this like a key going into a lock and the lock opening, you will achieve a tremendous amount of spiritual growth.
Your mindset will change to the point that it begins to serve you instead of the other way around.
This then leads to career advancement, business improvement, business turnaround, better relationships, and better health.
This leads me to the final general meaning of keys in dreams.
It is usually a good sign.
Your subconscious is trying to sum up a lot of the internal changes that you’ve been going through.
Many of these happen behind the scenes.
You can’t quite put your finger on them, but there is a sense that things are changing for the better.
Why?
You’re beginning to look at your world differently because this is the most important part of any kind of personal change.
Have you ever noticed that lottery winners who stumble upon millions of dollars end up being broke after the money is gone?
They haven’t changed.
Their financial statements changed temporarily for the better, but everything else, when it comes to their ability to shape and create their personal reality, hasn’t changed.
When you see the keys in your dream, there are changes within your mindset, and this is a good sign.
Go with it.
Be as conscious of these changes as possible so you can control, like a concert maestro, the symphony of your life.
What Does It Mean to Dream of House Keys?
House keys symbolize your need to care for someone other than you.
This might seem positive and everything, but it also entails a tremendous amount of power, authority, and responsibility.
Most people prefer power and authority.
They’re not so keen on the responsibility.
All of these go hand in hand.
And if you want to have a bigger role in somebody else’s life or in the lives of a group of people, you better step up when it comes to responsibility.
At its most basic, it means the willingness to accept blame when things go wrong.
When a little kid screws up, it’s the parents who stepped up.
The same goes for you.
It’s one thing to think that you’re helping a lot of people or it makes you look good or you’re growing up the ranks when you take control
But there’s more to it than the title.
Understand the gravity of the responsibility you’re taking on because the “house” in your dream that you have the key for strikes close to home when it comes to personal matters.
We’re talking about a sense of belonging, acceptance, and identity.
Heavy-duty stuff!
Treat your undertaking with care.
What Does It Mean to Dream of Car Keys?
You’re feeling really frustrated because it seems that a lot of your big dreams and goals are taking forever to materialize.
In fact, some of them are so slow in coming that you are basically convinced that they are not going to happen in your lifetime.
This is your impatience talking to you.
Your subconscious is showing you car keys as a symbol of the fact that you are the driver.
You’re so focused on the car not going anywhere or going really slowly, but you lose sight of this one important detail: you are the driver.
This means you are in control.
Maybe you need to step on the gas pedal a little bit more strongly.
Maybe you need to get into that car and drive it more often.
Whatever the case may be, you need to step up because you have the keys in your hand.
If you are willing, you will be able to get that car from Point A to Point B at whatever speed you desire.
That car is a stand-in for your life.
What Is the Dream Meaning of a Golden Key?
Gold symbolizes the best things that life has to offer.
It is also an almost universally accepted symbol of money.
When you see a golden key, your subconscious is telling you that all the good fortune that you’re looking for will not fall into your lap.
Get that idea out of your head!
You cannot luck your way into the kind of life you desire.
You’re going to have to struggle for it.
I’m not talking about working for it or paying your dues.
I am talking about struggle.
A lot of people shrink away from that word because it seems so painful.
To an extent, that’s true.
But the pain does not involve you sweating buckets or breaking rocks under a hot sun.
I’m not talking about physical struggle.
The real struggle happens within you because you’re going through phases in your life.
And if you hang to an earlier phase, it makes it so much harder to get to the next phase.
As you seek mastery over many areas of your life, you have to go through these phases with the right attitude.
This is where the struggle comes in because you feel like a fish out of water.
The golden key in your dream points to the fact that you will get used to the struggle.
And before you know it, you will master it.
They may seem like awesome news, but you have to accept the process.
You have to have the right mindset to go through with it.
Because once people detect internal struggles, they stop.
It’s as if you’re digging for diamonds and you’re only inches away from the fortune that you can’t even imagine.
And you stop!
You pay attention to your sweat.
You pay attention to your tension.
You pay attention to your frustration.
As a result, you let the process defeat you.
That golden key is not something that you just grabbed or picked up with no difficulting or inconvenience.
It’s going to burn instead.
It’s going to burn in your hands because you’re being tested.
How hard do you want this?
How much do you want this?
Let your journey change you.
Grab a hold of that key and turn it.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Silver Keys?
When you see silver keys in your dream, there are going to be opportunities materializing in your waking life.
Don’t get too excited!
A lot of the time, opportunities masquerade as difficulties, problems, or even disasters.
The real opportunity here is the waking consciousness in you, a consciousness than can look at the different phases of your life and evaluate the wisdom that each contains.
By being open to such wisdom, you will be a better judge of opportunities.
You will reach a point where you can see through the often deceptive, outside veneer of challenges, problems, setbacks, and difficult people.
You will then be able to put everything together and see opportunities and take advantage of them.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Losing a Key?
Losing a key can be very stressful.
You feel locked out.
You feel that you are wasting a lot of time going around in circles.
There’s a deep and profound sense of insecurity because you have lost your keys.
When your subconscious shows you this imagery in your dreams, this indicates that you will be losing your bearings.
You will be basically feeling like a fish out of water in certain situations.
This is not necessarily a bad thing.
Think of this type of situation as an invitation to level up and be more comfortable in your skin and take comfort from what you’ve accomplished in the past.
Surely this is not the first you’re going to encounter rejection, difficulty, and struggle.
Learn from the past.
At least draw some measure of reassurance from your ability to overcome them so you can plow through this current uncertainty.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of More Than One Key?
If your mind focuses on the fact that there are several keys or you are holding a “jailer” where there’s a big metal ring that holds tons of keys, this dream imagery speaks to your insecurity about choices.
Us Americans like to make a big deal out of “freedom of choice.”
We want choice, at least this is what we verbally communicate to the world.
But pay close attention to our behavior.
What do Americans desire more than freedom of choice?
You got it: freedom from choice.
It turns out that despite the huge assortment and variety of options spread up in front of us, our decisions usually fall within a narrow range of those options.
So there’s a tremendous disconnect between the things that we say and the things that we do.
Your dream is telling you that you like having a choice, but in reality, you act like a person who has a very narrow range of choices.
This is not necessarily a bad thing.
In fact, this tells you that a lot of the “other choices out there” are actually just distractions.
You probably would be better off focusing more of your time and analytical energy on the narrow range of options that usually go with it.
You can make them more efficient.
You can develop the right expectations.
You can tweak them in such a way that they serve you better.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Losing a Key?
If you dreamt that you’ve lost your keys, you are either afraid of going through an emotionally contentious time or part of you is convinced that you’re losing your sanity.
Neither of these personal interpretations is fully accurate.
It’s okay to be disoriented from time to time.
It happens to the very best of us.
As I’ve mentioned earlier in this dream interpretation, we go through phases.
And if we get too comfortable in one phase, we find ourselves wholly unprepared for the next one.
Do you see how this works?
So don’t jump to conclusions.
Don’t think that you’re going crazy.
Don’t think that you’re just not cut out for the next phase.
Understand that you have managed to adapt before, and you can do it again.
Stop thinking in black-and-white terms, thinking either I have keys and I’m in control, or my keys are completely gone.
Things usually are not that extreme.
Don’t give yourself this false choice of either being in full control or being out of control.
What Does It Mean to Dream of Broken Keys?
This is a dream summary of the things that you feel are going wrong in your life.
You’re feeling that a lot of the things that you took comfort in and that you confidently could do in the past are no longer working out.
Be very careful with this type of mindset.
Understand that there is a lot of room to play in uncertainty and insecurity.
You are always in control.
Try to look at your situation from the perspective of a student.
Ask yourself:
“What could I learn in this situation?
What lessons can I draw from the past that can help me make sense of the present so I can get the kind of future I would be happy with?”
What Does It Mean to Dream of a Solitary Key?
This is actually a great sign.
It doesn’t matter what the actual physical appearance of the key is.
It could be a shiny key.
It could be a brand new key with sharp edges.
Or, it could be a dull, old one.
Whatever the case may be, you are looking at a symbol of your increasing mastery over many areas of your life.
Mastery isn’t just a question of technical skill.
It’s not just a matter of knowing what to do at the right time with the right people to produce the right outcome.
While that is important, mastery also involves the right attitude.
If you can get to the point where you say to yourself:
“I’ve done this before.
I’ve done something similar and I’m sure I can get out of this much better.
In fact, I intend to master this to the point that it will serve me in the future.”
If your mind starts to think along with those terms, then you are getting closer to mastery because you’re focusing on one key.
You are in solid control of that key, and guess what!
It will act as a master key to all “locks” in your life.
It all boils down to the proper attitude.
Your attitude determines your life’s altitude.
Remember that!
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Receiving Keys?
This can indicate an increasing receptivity to spiritual guidance.
Again, spirituality is broadly defined here.
I’m not just talking about scriptural-based or philosophical-based spirituality.
While those are important, I’m talking about mindsets in general.
Somebody you come across or somebody you already know will let you in on an important insight, and it can be life-changing.
It can be as basic as being present in the moment or understanding past patterns.
It can also be as simple as taking responsibility for everything that’s going on in your life and taking ownership of them.
Whatever the case may be, expect your mind to be blown and your life to be taken to a whole other level.
What Does It Mean to Dream of a Key That Is Stamped?
If you see a key that has a stamp on it, your subconscious is grappling with proprietary issues.
I’m not talking about copyright or intellectual property.
I’m talking about the basic question of who owns you:
Is it your parents?
Is it your past?
Is it the group of people you run with?
You have to settle this question because it’s getting in the way of the handling of your personal key.
It’s not turning the locks in quite the way you had hoped.
Why?
You’re conflicted!
Who owns you?
What drives you?
Is it other people?
Or, have you taken ownership of certain key personal truths and you are turning the key based on how you want to turn the key?
Your subconscious is basically inviting you to be your own person.
This is yet one of the dream symbols.
I wouldn’t be surprised if your subconscious comes up with many different dream symbols, but they all lead to the same place.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Two Keys?
If you’re using two keys to turn a lock, as ridiculous as this might sound in practical terms, it might actually work out on the symbolic level.
You have to understand that one of the big dangers of going through one phase after another in life is to just look for one thing.
Maybe this “one thing” is what sums up that phase.
Maybe it’s the ultimate “skillset” for that time and area of our life.
But in reality, it gets in the way of our problem-solving skills because we are trying to boil everything down into just one thing.
Do yourself a big favor.
Try to mix up the things that you’ve learned from the past.
Maybe reduce those experiences to two things.
Combine them.
You’d be surprised as to how many locks those two keys will turn.
In many cases, you would be better off using two instead of one at least when it comes to your dreams.
What Does It Mean to Open a Key Shop or Key Store?
If you open a locksmith center and you’re selling keys to the public or grinding keys for customers, this is an indication that you feel you can give advice to others.
While this is a very positive step and I definitely recommend that you explore this part of your dream life, be very careful.
Remember, people are relying on you so it’s really important that all of what you say comes from a deep sense of self-awareness.
The biggest danger with this type of thing is that people come up to you “knowing” the answer already.
In other words, they want you to tell them what they want to hear.
They’re not looking for a solution.
Far from it!
They’re looking for assurance, and they narrowly define assurance as dealing solely with what they are comfortable with.
They don’t want to be blown away by an uncomfortable truth.
They don’t want to be exposed to a series of questions that might undermine what define as true.
But that’s your job!
When you put yourself in a position to share wisdom, your number one loyalty is not to the people who approach you because, at the end of the day, it’s a commercial transaction.
They are your customers.
Money changes hands, and it’s very easy to get blinded by this and use this as your primary guidance.
But you’re not doing anybody a favor, least of all yourself.
Your number one loyalty should be to the truth as you found it.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Finding a Key?
There’s going to be somebody new in your life who will change your mindset for the better.
Now, keep in mind that this “new person” might actually be somebody who you already know, but they’re taking a different role now.
Whatever the case may be, actively look for this person because you are not complete.
You may think you know everything, but you only need to look at your life to understand that it’s not as full and fulfilling as it should be.
You need this person’s wisdom to mentor you so you can get to the next level of consciousness.
What Does It Mean to Dream of a Padlock and Key?
Your mind is focusing on limitations.
This is really weird considering it’s thinking about keys.
Keys usually involve solving problems, unlocking things, opening doors, and stepping into spaces.
The problem with the dream of a padlock and a key is that it’s easy to just obsess about the padlock.
Your subconscious is trying to give you a warning sign.
Focus on the key.
Don’t get all caught up in the padlock.
What Does It Mean to Dream of a Rusty Key?
You are so wedded to an old mindset that you can’t let go.
As a result, the keys that you should be using in your life right now aren’t being used.
They’re neglected and they’re rusting.
Pretty soon, they will turn dust.
Keep that in mind.
Things won’t have a happy ending if you keep neglecting these aspects of your being.
What Does It Mean to Dream of a Keychain?
If you see colorful keychains in your dream, this indicates superficial attitudes.
By itself, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with superficial attitudes.
But please understand that if your key is one way and your cover or the colorful part that people could see hints at another type of key, you’re making things unnecessarily harder on yourself.
Do yourself a big favor.
Adopt a “what you see is what you get” attitude.
You’d be surprised as to how much easier your daily stress and your day-to-day life will be if you adopted that policy.
