If you’ve ever had a dream of dark skies or some badly lit interior space, it’s perfectly understandable if you woke up a little bit more than concerned.
After all, if the darkness is the main focus of your nighttime vision, you can’t help but be emotionally gripped by what you’re seeing or, just as importantly, what you’re not seeing.
This is the reason why a lot of people are worried about their dream of darkness.
A lot of people who experience this type of dream automatically use assume that something bad is about to happen to them in their waking lives.
This is not necessarily the case.
The General Meaning of a Dream of Darkness
Generally speaking, darkness in your dream indicates hard times.
This can take many different forms.
It can be financial.
It may have something to do with your health.
But in most cases, it usually involves your emotions and mental health.
A lot of this can be traced to an overwhelming fear, which brings us to the second common interpretation of darkness dreams.
When people fear a situation, they keep replaying a series of events that either happened or were twisted out of proportion or are yet to happen.
Whatever the case may be, they beat themselves up and they waste all their mental, emotional, and psychic energy on things that they would be better off leaving behind.
Ultimately they’re afraid of death, which is the third meaning of a dream of darkness.
Death has many different dimensions.
It also interacts with and impacts our waking consciousness on different levels.
Physical death is the easiest to deal with because it means a physical end to existence.
There was something before and after you pass a certain point, there’s nothing that comes after death.
That is easier to understand.
But the death I’m talking about involves the death of who you were.
And a lot of people have a problem with this.
They like to hang on to things that they should be letting go of.
They like to tell themselves all sorts of comforting stories when those narratives no longer serve them in the here and now.
This is the death that causes strained relationships, unnecessarily bad mental and emotional health, and all sorts of problems.
Be at peace with all aspects of death because we’re all going to get there sooner or later.
Another general meaning of darkness in dreams involves uncertainty.
Darkness after all is the absence of light.
When you don’t have light focused on a certain place and a certain situation, you don’t know exactly what’s there.
You are left to your own mental devices, and it’s not a surprise that you come up with stuff that’s not there or you blow things out of proportion.
Or, worse yet, you fail to see what is staring you right in the face.
None of these situations is good, and it’s no wonder that a lot of people fear the dark because of the uncertainty it brings to the table.
Another general meaning of darkness dreams involves depression.
It’s very easy to understand the generalized form of depression.
We’ve seen this.
In many cases, a lot of us have gone through this.
Somebody is sad.
They don’t have the energy.
They feel they can’t go on, and they just lie there.
This type of depression is easy to understand.
But there’s another type of depression that leads to a very toxic life and a very tortured existence.
You feel that you’re not depressed, and this is more dangerous.
You’re in a state of suspended reality.
It’s as if you have these blinders on, and you can’t really see the real world for what it is.
And that’s why your relationships suck, your career is going nowhere, and your self-image is down the toilet.
You can’t quite put your finger on it, but you’re not exactly sad either.
This is the depression that you need to get a hold of and master because, at the end of the day, you’re constantly feeling lost.
Dreaming Of Finding Yourself in the Dark
If you dream that you are in the dark for a very long period of time, this is a warning sign.
Your subconscious is telling you that you shouldn’t poke your nose into other people’s business.
Now, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t care, but you have to know the boundaries.
And if you keep giving in to this, people will try to shun you.
Or, they will distance themselves from you.
Eventually, you will realize that you are unwanted.
They don’t want you there because they know your habits.
And this is part of your insecurities that eventually triggers a chain reaction that leads to hard times.
Dreaming of Light in Darkness
If you see a point of light in an otherwise dark, interior space in your dream that seems to drag on forever, your subconscious is trying to wake you up to the fact that you have to deal with your insecurities.
People express their insecurities in a wide range of ways.
Some of them might even look deceptively positive.
Whatever the case may be, they come from a deep and profound sense that there’s something wrong with them or they’re missing something so they try to compensate.
In reality, you may be depressed!
You have to confront this fact because you end up feeling lost.
And worse yet, the people around you get so distracted and so emotionally stressed by your presence or the things that you do that they also become depressed.
It’s a self-feeding mechanism.
It’s a downward spiral.
And usually, this hurts the ones you should love the most.
This is why it’s really important when you see this dream (and your focus is on that light in the middle of the darkness) to seek inner peace.
The way to do this is to do some sort of emotional audit.
What are you really feeling?
Who can you really talk to?
What are you running away from?
These are the kinds of questions that you need to ask and there is no space for pride.
Look at yourself in the mirror and say:
“If I’m feeling sad, I’m feeling sad.
I’m going to take ownership of this because I need to get my act together.”
What Does Seeing a Dark House in Your Dream Mean?
If you see a dark house up ahead in your dream, it indicates that you are afraid of a specific situation in life.
A lot of the time, this turns into the issue of being unable to say goodbye.
Please understand that life is full of hellos and goodbyes.
Things come and go.
There is always a season and a time for everything.
There is a season for planting, there’s a season for being born, and there’s a season for dying.
Understand this seasonality, and you will stop fearing saying goodbye.
Because if you truly love somebody, love them enough to move on.
What Does a Dark Street in a Dream Mean?
If you’re obsessing about the darkness of the street in your dream vision, this can indicate deep and profound insecurity that leads to you bringing out the worst of people in situations.
You might be thinking that this is just a personality at work.
It doesn’t mean much of anything.
Think again!
It actually can trigger people to such an extent that it creates a chain reaction that brings hard times and unnecessarily difficult situations.
The truth is that a lot of the issues that you come across and a lot of challenges and problems that you feel like you “stumbled” into are self-inflicted.
Don’t let your insecurities write your life script.
Don’t let your insecurities color the path in front of you.
That street is never as dark as you think.
In fact, in the eyes of many people, that’s a well-lit street.
It leads to something definite.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Crying in the Darkness?
You’re giving in to your fear.
I’m not talking about the kind of fear that you experience when you watch horror movies.
I’m talking about fear of ideas — fear of where you can and cannot go; who you can and cannot be.
This is a serious problem because you are defining yourself out of happiness.
You are walling yourself off from the best version of yourself.
You need to stop doing this.
What is the solution?
Light!
And what does light represent?
Well, in this context, it means honesty because for the truth to set you free, it often has to piss you off first.
In many cases, it has to depress you first.
But once you are in the truth, you will no longer have a taste for darkness.
You will get sick of it.
You don’t want anything to do with it because now honesty and sincerity will guide you through life.
For you to be sincere with others, you have to first be sincere and honest with yourself.
That’s how it works.
What Does Darkness Creeping Into Your Waking Life Mean in Your Dream?
This indicates that the effect of certain people in your life is carrying over to even more areas of your personality and your total being.
A lot of the time, these people are not bad people.
You just choose to focus on their negative side.
Please understand that you are not perfect just as they are not perfect.
And if you play this game with yourself, nobody will be worthy — not even the woman who carried you in her belly for 9 months and suckled you with her breasts and basically sacrificed her life for you because it’s inconvenient to have a baby.
It’s inconvenient to take care of this little kid who can’t take care of herself or himself.
Even that image is problematic in your mind.
So stop it!
Understand that there is a better path.
Because if you keep focusing on the darkness, it will overcome you.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Being in a Dark Room?
If your focus is on the room itself, this can indicate that your relationship hasn’t grown in a long time.
You feel that you have come close to this person up to a certain point.
It’s as if your relationship is on autopilot.
Be very careful because once you reach the point where it seems it’s no longer worth it to know this person past a certain point, that’s how you know your relationship has died.
Sure, you may continue to have sex with that person.
You may pool your money together and otherwise look lovey-dovey in the eyes of many people around you.
But at the end of the day, it’s dead.
Why?
It’s dead where it counts.
You’re looking for intimacy because you are an organic creature that thrives on intimacy and mutual emotional support, growth, and maturity.
Well, that’s no longer happening.
Facing Physical and Moral Pain
A lot of the scenarios described above involve some sort of physical and moral pain.
You have to face them.
You have to be honest with them for you to overcome them.
Unfortunately, a lot of people play all sorts of games with themselves and they never get around to realizing the problem.
They tell themselves all sorts of comforting lies so they remain in place.
When the relationship blows up, when the layoff notices come, or when the cancer diagnosis comes, they’re surprised.
And guess what!
It’s everybody else’s fault except theirs.

Does It Feel Like You Have a Sad Soul?
When you are focusing on your darkness dream and you are trying to come up with a dream map, ask yourself your emotional state.
Does it feel like you’re numb?
Does it feel like you’re sad?
Does it feel like you’re regretting something?
Do you feel guilty?
Go through that list, and you’ll come closer to coming up with a dream map that leads to a real answer.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Walking With Someone in the Dark?
This might seem like a positive sign because somebody is giving you some sort of guidance and a measure of assurance while you are surrounded by uncertainty.
But the dreaming mind often communicates in contrast.
This dream imagery actually is a warning against provocation.
Watch what you say because there’s somebody who can hurt you really deeply because they secure you really well right now.
They are not as thick-skinned as you imagined them to be.
And you run the risk, not only of hurting them but provoking them to bring out their worst side.
You might be saying to yourself: “How bad can it get?”
Well, it can get really bad because they are actually very destructive.
Consider yourself warned!
