If you had a dream of cleaning house, you may be thinking that this is one of those easy-to-forget-and-ignore dreams.
You can easily be forgiven for thinking that way because there’s nothing more mundane or commonplace than cleaning your home.
After all, you don’t want to turn it into a pig’s tie, right?
Well, you need to sit up and pay attention if you keep having these dreams or if there is some sort of emotional connection you feel to this type of night time vision.
The General Meaning of a Dream of Cleaning a House
Generally speaking, when you have dreams about cleaning the house, your subconscious is telling you of your need to get rid of bad habits and useless or toxic personal relationships, or you simply need to make room for new things in your life.
Both of these could also be true at the same time.
When you clean your house, you are essentially getting rid of psychological and emotional clutter.
This can take many different forms.
The most obvious, of course, are the things that we repeatedly do, mainly our habits.
But this can also include people.
Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to cut out people or just ghost them.
You can safely distance yourself from individuals that really don’t really add much value to your life or they even make it worse.
If you don’t what you’re doing, you can safely distance yourself even from family members.
Please understand that you’re doing this so you can become the best version of yourself.
You’re not doing it to harm them.
You’re not doing it to pay them back.
You’re not doing any of that!
Instead, you just want to move on so you can become a better channel of blessings to the rest of the universe.
What Does It Mean to Dream About Cleaning a Fish Tank in Your House?
If the specific house cleaning dream focuses on a specific item like a fish tank, this indicates that there is negative emotional energy in your home.
Remember, water in your dream usually is connected to your emotional life.
Since we’re talking about a fish tank here, it is a small, compartmentalized side of your total emotional well-being.
It feels trapped.
It feels negative.
When you’re cleaning out your fish tank, this indicates that you are making priorities or re-evaluating whatever it is that you have prioritized up to this point.
You understand that when you expend energy on something in your life, there are usually emotions connected with it.
This is actually a good sign because now you’re thinking clearly regarding what your priorities are so that things don’t seem like a burden.
There are certain areas in your life where you feel that you’re doing these or you are tied to them because they’re some sort of chore.
By properly adjusting your attitude as well as your priorities, they can be fun again.
They can help you stay motivated so you can become a much better person.
The problem with chasing goals is that eventually, you run out of gas, and you have to pick the right type of fuel for you to succeed.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Cleaning Somebody Else’s House?
There are people in your life that you feel obligated to or are responsible for.
Oftentimes, this leaves you in the position of a martyr.
They take, take, and take.
You keep giving until you feel tapped out.
It’s as if you’re giving until there’s nothing left to give.
I’m not talking about material things although they can take that form.
More importantly, I’m talking about your emotional resources.
Do you have a relative that seems to only call you if they have a problem?
He or she can talk on and on about how life is unfair, how people keep cheating on them, or they feel that are always getting the short end of the stick.
They go on and on.
Your role is not to tell them to wake up or say something that will jolt them out of their negative mindset.
Instead, your role is just to take it all in.
And at the end of the process, they feel so much better but you feel drained.
When you dream of cleaning someone else’s house, your subconscious is telling you that you have too many of these imbalances in your life.
You either have to emotionally compartmentalize and distance yourself from these people or, you can be the hero and be the bearer of unwanted news.
Remember, the truth often makes you angry or depresses the hell out of you before it sets you free.
If you decide to be the bearer of the truth, be ready for the consequences.
Also, be clear about your motivations.
Don’t go into this, thinking that:
“I’m sick and tired of this person just dumping their emotional garbage on me.
I’m just gonna give them this massive uppercut by unloading the truth on them.
I don’t care about their feelings.
To hell with them!”
No, that’s the wrong motivation.
Remember, karma is real.
Instead, be clear about what your motivations are.
A lot of times, people find themselves in an emotional prison precisely because it’s so comfortable.
It’s comfortable not because they feel good.
Instead, they feel a sense of relief because they don’t have to do the heavy emotional lifting they need for growth.
It goes without saying that growth might feel so painful but it’s also absolutely necessary.
Not confronting their emotional prison is the ultimate selfish form of avoidance.
And you may think that this is the kind of thing that happens to other people.
Think again!
You’re probably doing it yourself.
So if you want to bust somebody out of their emotional prison, be ready to do it with the sledgehammer of truth.
But you have to make your motivations clear.
You have to be clear to them that:
“I’m doing this because I love you.
I’m doing this because I truly believe that you are capable of so much more, and you have a lot more to offer this world than what you’re doing right now.
You’re settling.”
Be prepared for loss.
But it’s much better, at least as far as I’m concerned, to see a bird soar free to become the eagle that was destined to be instead of being part of this chorus of people enabling that bird to continue to believe it’s a chicken.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Cleaning a House That Is in Foreclosure?
You probably have heard the saying “too little too late.”
Your subconscious is repeating that phrase, again and again, using this metaphor.
There’s an old saying in Filipino “What use is the grass when the horse is already dead?”
There’s a situation in your life where you are going out of your way and bending over backward to make amends.
But in reality, you’re just satisfying your ego because the harm is already done, and you don’t want to deal with the consequences of the harm.
Instead, you’re just putting a window dressing on the emotional upset you caused.
You’re just doing this for yourself.
The worst part to all of this is that you’re actually getting worked up about it while everybody knows exactly what your motivations are, and it’s a little too late.
The house is already been foreclosed on.
Why are you wasting your time cleaning it?
It’s not as though by making it spick and span that the bank will suddenly change its mind and give you another chance.
It doesn’t work that way!
They’ve given you chance after chance.
The reason why you’re having this type of dream is that you’re focusing on what’s convenient to you.
You’re still being selfish.
Focus on the consequences of what you did or said.
Fix that and try to earn people’s trust back.
Now, you probably should also understand that a lot of the time, once you break somebody’s trust, it’s almost impossible to bring it back, at least not at the same level.
So always come in armed with that information.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Exclusively Cleaning the Walls of Your House?
When you find yourself just focused on cleaning the walls of your house, this indicates that you need to pay attention to whether it’s an exterior wall or an interior wall.
If it’s an interior wall, the meaning is pretty straightforward.
You’re trying to make things as emotionally and psychologically comfortable for yourself.
So everything that you choose to mix and match and pick and choose from the lost list of generally neutral stimuli that the world sends your way, is self-serving.
You pick out details that reinforce what you think you already know and who you think you already are.
This is not strange.
In fact, everybody does this.
The question is “are you aware that you’re doing this?”
If you are aware that you’re doing this, then you can make necessary changes when this type of strategy doesn’t work or doesn’t fit into the reality that you have to deal with.
Remember, there is such a thing as an external reality.
And despite our personal truth and despite the stories that we tell ourselves, there is still that objective reality that we have to deal with.
It has consequences whether we accept them or not.
If you are cleaning an external wall, this means that you are trying to put up appearances that you feel people expect from you.
The operative phrase here is “expect from you.”
You think people require a certain appearance from you, but they have certain expectations of you.
This may be true of your parents and possibly some of your friends and definitely at work.
But once you go past that circle of content, at the end of the day, you will walk away with the distinct impression that people really don’t care.
I know; shocker, right?
The world has its own problems.
It spins on its own axis.
It has its own fish to fry, so to speak.
Be careful of what you’re putting on appearances for.
Are you trying to fool people?
Are you trying to appear something like you’re not?
Are you trying to prove something?
Remember, there’s already enough hypocrisy in the world: people saying one thing and doing another, trying to present a certain face to the world when actually they’re the complete opposite.
Is that what you really want to do?
Or, are you going to present that truth?
It’s one thing to present your personal truth, and it’s another to try to live up to what you think other people’s truth is: Two totally different things that lead to two totally different strategies later on.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Watching Other People Clean a House?
When you watch other people clean their homes, part of you is very happy that they are finally clearing up the clutter that prevents them from rising to their fullest potential.
When you see them busily cleaning and that sense of contentment comes over you, you have finally discovered the ability to share other people’s joy.
For you to get there, you also have to share people’s sense of struggle and pain.
This is what empathy is all about.
On the other hand, if you’re watching other people clean your house, this indicates that you are avoiding responsibilities for the things that truly matter in your life.
If you’re suffering from past childhood trauma like sexual abuse or physical abuse from your parents, this indicates that you are just too eager to let other people “solve your problem.”
The challenge here is that nobody can really solve your problem except you.
The solutions don’t take the form of a new lover, a new relationship, a new job, or a new career.
You have to come to grips with the problem.
You have to clear out that clutter.
This means loving yourself enough to put in the work to make key changes in important areas of your life that have been burdening you all this long.
They’ve been weighing you down for this long.
It’s not fair to you to try to outsource that to somebody else.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Dealing With a Contractor That Wants to Clean Your House?
There are many people who are all too eager to put on a cape and “rescue you from your problem.”
A lot of the time, they appear that way because you want them to appear that way.
I can’t even tell you how many people out there assume that there is somebody else whose job and function it is in life to save them individually.
Life doesn’t work that way!
People always have an agenda.
And when people notice that you have this weak spot in your life — maybe you have trust issues; maybe you have abandonment issues; maybe you’re trying to get over some sort of deep-seated abuse or maybe you have an addiction — a lot of people exploit that.
A lot of people try to use you by working with your weaknesses to make you do things that don’t really benefit you but definitely benefit them.
Either they use you directly or buy and sell you, so to speak.
Beware of emotional pimps.
Beware of people who use your weakness, and abuse you.
Because you are an end in of yourself.
You’re not just a means to some sort of higher purpose, and the only person that can truly help you is yourself.
I know that comes as cold comfort for a lot of people because they are convinced that there is this ideal lover or this ideal leader or this great person out there.
No!
It’s you!
To be exact, there is one person out there who can truly help you, but you may not be ready for his identity.
His name is Jesus Christ.
He is the answer.
But if you’re not ready for that, focus on your self-care.
Stop imagining these altruistic people that are out to “save you.”
Because a lot of the time, people fall are looking for someone else to save them.
So they fall in love with other people because of this want.
And oftentimes, this leads to either emotional retardation or just a flat-out disaster.
And in many cases, seeing yourself cleaning your house in your dream is a metaphor for a rising consciousness where you’re beginning to clean out this clutter.
Just as a forest fire is absolutely necessary for new growth to re-energize the ecosystem, you have to go through that painful process.
There is only one exception to this, of course, which is falling in love with Jesus.
Jesus doesn’t want anything from you.
He doesn’t want to exploit you.
He doesn’t want to use you.
Instead, by His death, you live again.
By His pain, you are healed.
Dream interpretation and symbology have fascinated me ever since I read Freud’s classic, “The Interpretation of Dreams.” Ever since, I have explored Christian, Jewish, Hindu, and Buddhist as well as Jungian psychological ideas about the meaning of dreams. Thanks for joining me in my exploration of the amazing intersection between our conscious waking world and the rich expanse of our subconscious-the home of our intuition, instincts, and hidden potential.
