If you have just woken up after receiving money in a dream, no one can blame you for thinking that good things are just around the corner. However, the biblical meaning of receiving money in dreams is more nuanced and complicated than you can imagine.
After all, money is one of the most powerful symbols in life.
Seeing this dream image in your nighttime visions doesn’t necessarily mean that you are greedy or a particularly acquisitive person.
Instead, I want to turn your attention to the fact that the Bible mentions money a whole lot of times.
This is due to the reality that money seems to take up so much of our everyday thoughts.
Either we’re worrying about it, wishing and hoping about it, regretting it, or something in between.
Money for right or wrong takes up quite a bit of the real estate in our heads.
It doesn’t come as a shock that the Bible has many things to say about money.
You have to be very careful when you see yourself receiving money in a dream.
It’s very tempting to go with what you think it means instead of opening your mind to what it could possibly mean in a broader context.
This can mean the difference between continued struggle and worries and finally achieving a life of some sort of financial freedom.
Different people have different definitions of success; the same goes for financial freedom.
For many people, a little bit goes a long way.
Others have far grander visions of what it means to be financially free.
Money Dreams Totally Depend on the Context
There are certain types of dreams that you can easily get away with interpreting in a fairly loose way.
There’s a lot of wiggle room in these types of symbols like the mother, the house, and anything to do with your health.
But when it comes to money, context is everything.
Depending on who is looking and when in their lives they’re looking, money can represent almost anything.
It can be power, wealth itself, the ability to get wealth, success, status, or a sense of having “arrived.”
That’s how powerful this symbol is.
If you are slopping with figuring out its context in your nighttime visions, don’t be all that surprised if you find yourself barking up the wrong tree time and time again.
It turns out that your definition of money is quite different from what your destiny defines money as.
The Meaning of Seeing Money in Your Dreams
When you see money in your dreams, you are focusing on your ability to take control of your environment.
At the end of the day, this is one of the most basic yet important definitions of personal power.
You really cannot say that a person who has no ability to change their day-to-day reality defined as their immediate surroundings has any sort of power.
Of course, this power works out in a wide variety of ways.
Some people are very persuasive.
They get other people to do what they either cannot do or don’t want to do.
Others are able to deliver value to the lives of other people that they give them the tools that they need to make the necessary changes in their environment.
This is how most people earn their money, and this is the type of power that most people have.
We work by trading our time for those green pieces of paper that we put in our wallets or purses.
Other forms of power involve emotional attachment.
The fact that somebody misses you or would miss you should you disappear is a form of power.
What a lot of people overlook is the fact that they have some sort of impact on at least somebody somewhere at some time.
So many people have convinced themselves that they’re just another face in the crowd.
If something happens to them and they disappear from the scene, they are pretty sure that nobody will miss them.
Don’t be so sure!
If you’ve heard of the butterfly effect, then you would know what your effect is in your corner of the world.
You may be thinking:
“Well, I never really did anything important.”
Or, “I don’t really bring that much value to the table.
I’m easily replaceable.”
Well, that’s what you think!
There are people out there who love you.
There are people out there who accept you just for who you are, not because of who you are trying to prove yourself to be or what you’re trying to aspire to.
You just are, and you’re enough to them.
And what do you think will happen if there is a void because you disappeared, died or met up with some accident, or just simply gave up?
You will be missed!
That has an impact, not just immediately in terms of people having to hire another person or finding another to love or take care of, but think 10, 20, 30 years from now.
A lot of what’s going on in your life and the world, in general, are caused by the people that disappeared or went missing or died.
So don’t for a second think that you have no power.
Just by being alive, you do have power.
Now it is quite sad that so many people have learned helplessness.
They have automatically programmed themselves to think that the rich can only get richer and the poor can only get poorer, and there’s really not much they can do.
Well, that’s their choice.
That is learned helplessness.
But don’t for a second believe that you lack the capacity to make changes that can scale, at some point and at some time, and at some place, far beyond your imagination.
We all have that effect.
We deny that power constantly, but that repeated denial and obliviousness don’t make its reality go away.
That’s how powerful each and every one of us is.
Just because most of us are perfectly content to live far below our fullest potential doesn’t mean we don’t have potential.
It doesn’t mean that we cannot train our minds to fully unlock the full value of our existence in this Universe, which brings me to the ultimate meaning of money.
Money is valuable precisely because it represents value no matter how you define it.
Money can be anything.
Back in the day, it used to be cowrie shells that you find on the sand at the beach.
In other cultures, money is, believe it or not, defined as this huge immovable rock.
You just need to make references to it in your trades, and people will know exactly what you’re talking about and how much value to place on the transaction that you’re trying to make.
At the end of the day, money’s value depends on shared belief.
The United States dollar only has value because people have faith in the United States government’s ability to back up its trillions of pieces of paper distributed all over the world.
The moment that faith is shaken and lost, you best believe that the mighty US dollar will be worth absolutely nothing, and in this world, nothing lasts forever.
So, understand the real meaning and power of the symbol of money.
It has nothing to do with gold, it has nothing to do with green pieces of paper, and it has nothing to do with actual physical measurements of wealth.
Instead, it is a symbol of our ability to turn ideas into reality.
It is a symbol of potential. It is a symbol of hope, wishes, and confidence.
The Biblical Meaning of Seeing Money in Your Dreams
If you see money in your dreams, it indicates a blessing.
It indicates the ability to participate in the flow of value.
Now keep in mind that this is very different from being rich.
This is different from being in the center and receiving everybody else’s money.
No!
The Bible views wealth as something that flows.
It ultimately is a reflection of God’s grace and generosity.
One of the biggest testimonies to God’s power is the fact that He gives to us based on the riches of His grace instead of what we deserve.
The Bible is clear: “The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23)
If you sin, you die.
It’s that simple.
And who sins?
The Bible is also clear on that count.
Romans 3:23 (CEV): “For all have … fallen short of the glory of God.”
That’s right!
Everybody is living under a death sentence.
The fact that you are reading this and still drawing breath is a miracle in itself.
Your continued existence is a testimony to the grace and goodness of God.
That ultimately is the definition of richness: to give from grace instead of giving based on what we deserve or our ideas of merit.
When you see money in your dream and you’re looking for the Biblical meaning, pay attention to where that money goes and how it materializes because you have a role to play in letting God’s grace flow in this world.
Whatever material blessing you have in your life, there is a reason, and that reason is not for hoarding; it’s not for just gratifying yourself or just taking care of your family.
It is for something else.
Whether symbolically or materially, your blessings are supposed to flow to other people.
One of the most powerful ways it can flow to people is to simply be an example.
When you work hard for your dreams, you are an example to people that things are possible.
When you achieve success in whatever form, you are a reminder to people that they, too, have the ability to turn whatever hopes, wishes, and dreams they have into a reality they can see, touch, taste, smell, and hear.
This is a blessing!
And you should play a role in that blessing.
To say: “Yes, I did this, and you can do it too.”
We all have different dreams, but we all have the same need: we need to be inspired by possibility.
How do you stop this flow of blessings?
Well, it’s simple.
You can just say, “I got lucky!”
You can just say that this is a random chance.
The Lord is not random.
His grace is beyond human understanding.
It is not random.
As Genesis 24:35 says:
“The LORD has greatly blessed my master, and he has become rich. He has given him sheep and cattle, silver and gold, manservants and maidservants.”
The Lord is the center of all wealth because it is through His grace that things become possible.
It doesn’t matter how much you desire something.
It doesn’t matter how well you’ve trained yourself o realize your hopes and dreams.
If you fail to commit to the Lord whatever you do, your plans will not succeed.
That is the opposite of Proverbs 16:3.
You have to understand that you’re slapping the Lord in the face whenever you say:
“I just got lucky!”
Or, “The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.
It’s all automatic. There’s nothing we can do about it.”
You are calling it to question His sovereignty because you have a role to play.
The fact that you refuse to lift a finger or refuse to assume your role and allow the Lord to shape you doesn’t make that greater reality go away.
Receiving Money Indicates Receiving the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a force.
Even though we don’t see it, it is all too real.
As Jesus Christ explained to Nicodemus, you don’t see the wind, but you see the wind’s effects.
People who live in typhoon-prone areas can testify abundantly regarding the power of the air.
You can’t see it, but you can definitely feel it because it can just level everything around you.
That’s how powerful it is.
It cannot be intimidated.
It cannot be reasoned away.
The same with the Holy Spirit a billion times more, and the Holy Spirit is flowing through you.
It sustains the world.
It is quite sad that we choose to block it out.
We refuse to give it permission to work in our hearts, to fully transform us and renew our minds.
It is no surprise that we’re not living in abundance.
We’re not inspiring each other the way we should, nor are we letting God’s blessings flow through our lives, so we become channels of blessings and hope to others.
When you see money changing hands, and you’re on the receiving end, this is a call to action to receive the Spirit.
Receiving the Spirit Is Not as Easy as You Think
Have you ever seen a crazy person?
It’s a cringy moment.
Let’s be honest.
On the one hand, you can see this person just saying stuff, hearing stuff, and just acting really weird.
But at the same level, you can realize that it could be you, and that’s what’s really scary.
A lot of people who have been possessed by the Holy Spirit refuse that state because we human beings would like to slice and dice reality into neat, little boxes with some semblance of control.
But when you are possessed by the Holy Spirit, that control goes out the window, and this is where fear comes in.
But if you ask yourself, “Are you really in control?”
The answer would be no.
If you can wrap your mind around this reality, then the next question is begging to be asked:
“If you’re not really in control, then why won’t you let the Holy Spirit be in control?”
This is a very uncomfortable question to ask because deep down inside, we’re insecure.
We’d rather deal with the lack of control that we think we know and the dissatisfaction that we’ve grown accustomed to.
But in reality, we are afraid.
Jesus has said that He is going to take us to a better place.
He is going to declare freedom for those who are enslaved.
But all of this is not done by force, nor is it done by trickery or some sleight of hand.
That’s the Devil.
Jesus does things up front.
In fact, it is written in Revelation that He stands at the door of our hearts, knocking and waiting for our permission to let Him in.
And if we let Him in, He is going to have supper with us.
In other words, He is going to sustain us.
He is going to be there as we face our needs, and we all need to eat.
We all need to support ourselves.
We all need to make it to the next day and the day after that.
He is going to do all of that.
He is going to be with us, but it is all done by consent.
We have to give Him permission.
And when we continue to think that Spirit-possessed people are crazy and we don’t want to have anything to with that because it makes us feel uncomfortable and compromised and vulnerable, you’re giving in to the insecurities of your flesh.
There is nothing to be embarrassed about in the Gospel.
It is nothing to be ashamed of.
In fact, the stakes are high.
Jesus said: “He who denies me, I will deny him to the Father.”
If you want to go to Hell as efficiently and as quickly as possible, deny Jesus Christ.
Deny His saving grace.
That’s how you seal the deal.
Ultimately, the more you do that, the more you blaspheme the Spirit, and you’re no longer receptive to the Spirit.
That’s when God said, in Paul’s letter to the Romans, “I have turned them over.”
Basically, God has abandoned you because you have repeatedly abandoned Him.
You have made it abundantly clear that you don’t have anything to do with Him, or you want to just pigeonhole Him, put Him in a neat, little box that you think you can control, define Him or compartmentalize Him.
It will reach a point where you, yourself, have brought on divine abandonment.
It’s one of the scariest passages in the Bible because it is the endpoint of Jesus’s promise to never forsake us and to never leave us.
Through the Holy Spirit, He is able to do that.
He wasn’t able to do that when He was in human bodily form.
But through the Spirit, He is able to do that, and that’s what we have right now.
We are in the age of the Holy Spirit, but so many people are refusing it.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Losing Money?
As I’ve mentioned earlier, money dreams depend a lot on context.
If your dream is that you lost money and you can feel an impending disaster in your dream, or you’re just trying to buy something, and you see that whatever it is that you desire to do with your money has slipped past your fingers, this indicates a sense of desperation.
You feel that there are certain areas of your life that you like control over, and there’s really not much you can do about them.
It’s as if you are watching out a slow train wreck, and all you can do is just lean back and let the disaster happen.
This is one of the most depressing and disempowering dreams you could ever have because you are a powerful person, but you have convinced yourself to abandon whatever awareness of your personal power you may have had.
Instead, you’re now defining yourself as something that is just purely at the mercy of other people and circumstances that are beyond your control.
You have given up.
This is easier to do than a lot of people care to realize.
If you’ve had your heart broken, if you have been turned down for one job after another, or if your schooling didn’t pan out for you, it’s very easy to be discouraged.
But here’s the key difference between people who get knocked down by life and those who spring back up to fight their way uphill through ups and downs and excruciating pain to ultimate victory.
What is the difference?
The one who gets knocked down at some point finally made a choice to stay down.
This can take many different forms.
This can mean settling for much less than your worth.
It means settling for how people define you.
It can mean setting for defining yourself based on your past disappointments and failures.
But at the end of the day, it’s all a choice.
Do you think people who go on to win big victories in life know that victory is assured?
Of course not!
There’s one thing sure in their minds.
They don’t want to stay down.
They don’t want to remain prone on the floor, flat on their butts.
They think of themselves more highly, and they know that rising up again is painful.
It involves a lot of sacrifices.
But if they push hard enough, consistently enough, things will get better.
When you see yourself losing money, don’t let that desperation define you.
Don’t wake up in a panic and automatically assume that this is what’s gonna happen in your waking life.
Your dream is trying to communicate to you a very deep reality.
It goes beyond your finances.
It has everything to do with how you live your life.
The Spiritual Meaning of a Person Receiving Money
If you see a person giving you money in your dream, this is an indication that you should be paying attention to your influences.
Every single person that you meet, whether it’s the barista at Starbucks or the janitor in a bathroom, has an impact on you.
Your perception of them may last all but a few split seconds, but if you associate what you perceive with some subconscious reality, the impact of that interaction will continue to resonate in your life for a very long time.
People I have met at different times of my life who have said random things have influenced me deeply even though I didn’t see them again.
I used to work for a judge in the law-and-motions section of the San Francisco County Superior Court.
He was Judge Garcia.
What blew my mind was we were dealing with very big cases.
We talked about millions of dollars in claims.
And Judge Garcia could be counted on to just ask his clerks one simple question:
“What type of motion is it?”
And then, from there, he would ask a follow-up question:
“What did they offer for that motion?”
I didn’t know it back then, but Judge Garcia’s questions were intentionally short because he wants you to think in terms of short, concise, and info-packed sentences.
Whatever you say to him after that point decided the case.
Interestingly enough, I thought that I was basically flying by the seat of my pants because here’s this multi-million dollar lawsuit brought by a multi-million dollar law firm on behalf of a big-time client, and all of this legal drama was just hanging on a couple of sentences.
What was amazing about that whole situation was Judge Garcia almost always never got reversed on appeal.
That’s how badass he was!
His influence on me was the fact that I kept seeing him playing video games.
He wasn’t slaving away under wall upon wall of opened books or legal treatises.
He was just playing games, then he would let me enter his room, and he’ll ask me a couple of questions, and the motion was decided.
Again, we’re talking about heavy-duty stuff like summary judgment.
I clerked with him for only a few months, and that was it.
I never saw him again.
I am bringing this to your attention because people that you meet or you worked with have a lifelong impact on you.
My experiences with Judge Garcia revolve around the concept and importance of mastery.
Real freedom, whether in the context of work or in finances, is based on the concept of mastery.
You have to master something, and finding it is one of life’s big projects.
A lot of people are under the mistaken assumption that you have to be passionate about something to master it.
No, that’s not true!
In fact, it’s the opposite.
It is precisely those things that we feel are imposed upon us because we need to do them for a living that we are forced to master.
Mastery that is based solely on passion and what comes easy or what is pleasurable almost always never happens.
Judge Garcia didn’t look happy.
If he had his choice, he would be doing something else, but there he was, the epitome of personal mastery.
When you see money in your dreams, it is a symbol of the call by the world and by your destiny to master something because when you are a master of a certain skill or a certain mindset, your value shines through, and those who subscribe to that value will send value your way.
That’s how it works.
But if you can’t be bothered, if you’re the type of person who just does the bare minimum just not to get fired, then all of this goes out the window, and you end up struggling.
There is no mastery there because you didn’t give yourself permission.
What Does It Mean to Find Money in Your Dream?
It’s one thing to be given money.
It’s another to find money.
This is a tricky dream to interpret because the obvious meaning seems so heavy that it almost feels that it’s always this positive.
When you find money in your dream, this indicates that things have lined up in such a way that you feel you haven’t controlled it or you’ve set it in motion.
But in reality, you are in the right place at the right time, doing the right things with the right people to produce the right outcomes precisely because you are prepared.
Again, this is a part of the process of personal mastery.
You can’t control your destination, but you can control your effort.
You can control your mindset.
You can control the openness to experience or your willingness to learn.
And by focusing on what you can control, you can then find yourself being able to do what you need to do when the right opportunities come.
As the old saying goes, “the harder I work, the luckier I get.”
This is the obvious meaning of finding money in your dream.
The less obvious meaning, which trips up a lot of people, is the idea that money is just something that you stumble upon by luck.
Luck is one of the most toxic ideas you can ever wrap your head around because it rots you from the inside out.
It pushes you to deny that there is an order in the Universe.
It pushes you to turn a blind eye to God’s grace.
Instead, you’re just focusing on luck, some random chance if things happen that are beyond your control, and you’re just there to receive it.
Well, if you break down that previous sentence, it actually has many different parts, and most people can’t even bring themselves to receive the Universe’s blessings, should they be so lucky.
I know that’s kind of a big claim to make, but in reality, the reason why so many people are financially struggling is that their mental wallets are too small.
They don’t dream big.
They don’t ask big.
They don’t demand big.
And they definitely don’t act big.
By acting big, I’m talking about doing whatever is necessary for however long it takes to achieve your dreams.
Instead, they focus on the small stuff.
They focus on what gets on their plate so they can make it to the next day and the day after that, and before you know it, they die, and cementing this mindset is the idea of luck.
Just think about it.
If you believe in luck, it doesn’t sting as hard when you see somebody who began with the same amount of resources as you eventually becoming so much richer and more powerful than you.
In fact in many cases, there are people who began their journey to success with much less resources than you.
You were Bill Gates compared to them when you started out.
But now here you are.
They seem to own everything, and you have very little.
In fact, you worry about where your next meal is going to come from.
If this is your reality, then your mental instinct is to grasp and hang on to something that would explain away what happened instead of dealing with the personal, humiliating conclusion that you simply didn’t apply yourself because you had the same opportunities as that person, but you chucked it all to chance.
This is how you rot from the inside out because luck robs you of the personal authorship of your life.
Sure, I’m not going to say that luck doesn’t exist.
But for you to trigger luck, you have to give yourself permission to plant, to work, to take chances, to risk being disappointed, humiliated, embarrassed, or let down.
This is all part of the deal.
And when you keep dreaming about finding money and a sense of resignation hangs over the air, this is a sign that you have let ideas like luck get the better of you.
As a result, you’re not living your life as actively as you should.
You will then become the type of person who constantly walks around, asking, “What happened?” instead of the person making things happen.
What Does It Mean to Dream Of Someone Stealing Money From You?
This is a very tricky dream to interpret because you have to pay attention to context.
The most obvious is that your sense of control is being taken away from you.
This can happen in cases where your family makes all sorts of demands or somebody gets sick, and you have to pitch in, but it has changed the trajectory of your plans.
You feel pressured.
You feel that you’ve been put upon.
Please understand that this is what happens when you’re making other plans.
This is life, and you have to do what you can to help while, at the same time, making sure that you focus your energies where they need to go.
This doesn’t mean turning your back on your loved one and not helping them.
But it also doesn’t mean abandoning your dreams and goals for your family.
Seek a balance.
Learn when to pick up and continue.
Learn when to do it.
Another meaning of seeing somebody stealing money from you in your dream indicates a very closed definition of wealth.
Believe it or not, a lot of people think that for them to become rich, somebody has to become poor.
I know that sounds crazy, right?
But this is how a lot of people think.
In their minds, there’s only a fixed amount of resources in the world, and if you were to get more of those resources, by definition, somebody else would have to live with less.
The idea of value flowing and exchanging and growing wealth because of such exchanges never crossed their mind.
Instead, they define money as really just shiny rocks or green pieces of paper.
And it is precisely because of this fixed definition of money that traps people.
They become greedy because they focus on money as something scarce.
They don’t look at money as possibility or as a symbol of value.
It is no surprise that Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NIV) teaches us that:
“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.”
If you have a tight definition of wealth, the good life, or the abundance of life, you can easily find yourself eating but remaining hungry.
You can find yourself drinking and drinking, and thirst is never quenched.
Why?
You’re barking up the wrong tree!
It may come as a shock to you that a lot of billionaires actually declared bankruptcy at least once in their lives.
Please understand that when they became bankrupt, it’s not that they were broke.
Broke people are not billionaires.
They’re still rich.
They didn’t have any money in the bank.
All of that went to pay debts, but they’re still rich because they have a rich mindset.
They see money and wealth not as fixed shiny pieces of metal or green pieces of paper.
Instead, they see it as a possibility.
They see it as a series of strategies and tactics that they can use when certain opportunities appear.
They also see it as strategies to recognize opportunities.
You can never take that skill away from truly rich people because they’ve gone through a journey with success with all its heartbreaks and crushing disappointments to sear that lesson into their mind.
So when you throw them out there and you inflict all sorts of hardships on them and take away their money, just like Joseph in the Bible, they will always keep overcoming that.
If you’re struggling, maybe you need to stop defining money in terms of material things.
Instead, view it in terms of spiritual elements and skills.
This is a crucial step on the road to mastery.
What Does It Mean to Find Out That You Have Dirty Money in Your Dream?
This is the symbol of betrayal.
When you dream that the money that you’re spending is actually dirty money sourced from drugs or other illegal activities, this indicates that the assumptions that you have about your relationships, yourself, your health, your well-being as well as your personal finances have been corrupted.
This is a warning sign.
This is a sign that maybe you’re beginning to slip into the mindset of luck.
You may be surrounding yourself with people who have a poverty mindset.
And your dream is trying to wake you up to that reality because, just like diseases, mindsets are infectious.
As the old saying goes, “I can tell you what your net worth is after you tell me who is in your network.”
In other words, who you hang out with has a very important role to play in how your finances shape up.
If you hang out with people who just trade their time for money, then don’t be all that shocked if that’s how you define making money: trading time for money.
In your head, the best way to get ahead is to just get a job.
On the other hand, if you hang out with people who invest or who create and participate in investment opportunities, you have a completely different mindset.
You realize that you can make money out of thin air by being able to spot opportunities and get people to invest in those opportunities, and these opportunities are not Ponzi schemes or pyramid schemes.
These are investments that translate into real companies run by real people and worked at by flesh-and-blood human beings to produce solid value for those who desire such goods and services.
One of the most common entrepreneurial mistake people believe is that for you to be successful in the business, you have to know that business in and out, meaning you have to work that business.
Think about that for a second.
I hope you realize how ridiculous that is.
So if you were thinking of putting up a burger franchise store network like McDonald’s or Jollibee, does it really make sense for you to go through the process of mopping the bathroom, building the store, chopping up the meat, baking the buns, cleaning up the facade of the store?
It doesn’t!
That’s not how entrepreneurs think.
I’m talking about investors.
Instead, they look at the numbers.
They look at the value proposition.
And then, they shop the business plan to other people looking for opportunities, and once the capital is in place, they hire a manager.
It’s that person who operates the business.
This is the growth and possibility mindset that is responsible for billions and trillions of value on this planet, not the person who defines a business as him or her working every single job in that business.
Your mindset is your most important asset.
Guard it closely!
